"I was born to host," says Wine Cabana owner Keith Frantz. It's a calling with a simple enough first premise: "When somebody comes to your house, you make sure they have something to eat, a place to sit, and something to drink."

"Wine Cabana and its owner, Keith Frantz, are instantly likeable. 'The Wine Cabana is dedicated to leaving all pretentiousness at the door and ensuring a fun and knowledgeable environment for all of our guests' reads part of the Wine Cabana's mission statement, a direct reflection of Frantz's genuinely friendly and down-to-earth demeanor."

"Run by a couple of laid-back guys who care not only about quality libations but also creating a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy them, Wine Cabana is a friendly spot in which to sip a flight of South American reds or sample Canadian ice wines. Don’t be shy about sharing tasting notes-and maybe a cheese board-with the amiable stranger down the bar, it’s that kind of place."

Five Stars for the Wine Cabana in Old Town

"After waiting to go here for 9 months, I finally made the trek to San Diego, JUST to check out the Wine Cabana. This place rocks! Worth going for the decor alone, it is a nice place with separate seating areas, an actual bar (some wine "bars" don't have them), and a great wine selection.

A local wine importer came in to do some "summer whites" tastings. The wines varied from California locales to Spain and France. Plus the importer knew a lot about wine.

To top it all off, we got excellent service and company from Julian and Gina (call her Gheorghie). They are experts in their domain, and are wonderful conversationalists.

I'd go back again (planning a trip real soon).

Message to San Diego: GO THERE! It was relatively empty when I went (a Wednesday evening), and I'd hate to see this place disappear." - Phillip S

"This is another one of SD's hidden treasures! I rarely venture down to Old Town to avoid the tourist nightmare, but a friend of mine had a birthday get together at Wine Cabana. This wine bar is fairly new and I know word will spread quickly - the atmosphere is amazing, especially for a group of friends. There are small separate indoor/outdoor "cabana" rooms perfect for small parties/gatherings or an intimate date. The staff are very knowledgeable about their wines and offer a nice variety. They also have great recommendations from a word-wide cheese selection to nicely complement the wine you are drinking. The owner gave my friend (birthday girl) a nice gift bottle of wine to take home with her, which was a very nice gesture! Now my new favorite wine bar in SD. I'll be back!!" - Ryan C

"WOW! You can't get much better than this! Only been around for about 5 months so I suggest you check it out now before too many people discover this treasure. The wine selection is wonderful and the appetizers are delicious. The atmosphere blows away any wine bar I've ever been to and the staff is great! Seriously, this is my new favorite wine bar. I hope you will agree :)

Oh ya, they even have a great monthly email - make sure you get on it!!" - Kelly W.

"Love this place. The decor is great. Good wine selection. Really nice atmosphere. All the staff is really nice." - Dani R

"What I love about The Wine Cabana:
* Great wine selection
* Affordable tasting menus
* Delicious appetizer plates (try the smoked salmon, delicious)
* Outgoing, friendly staff (owner Keith will answer any of your questions)
* Cabanas, inside and out

Check this place out any night of the week, especially during one of their theme nights. Monday is Industry Night with deals for service industry staff. Every month features a Birth-Day with specials for people born in that month.

Cheers!"
